From a family-owned restaurant in Hamilton to one of New Zealand’s largest privately owned catering companies.

Montana began as a family-owned restaurant on Victoria Street, Hamilton, in 1965, founded by the Stark family. A spirit of innovation saw the business expand into out catering in 1988, and later into large-scale corporate hospitality with the advent of professional rugby in 1996.

Dallas Fisher joined forces with Peter Stark and together they envisioned taking the restaurant’s values and commitment to exceptional food and beverage beyond its walls and into off-site catering. Their vision took shape when they secured the catering rights to what is now FMG Stadium — marking the beginning of Montana Catering.

In 2011, operations expanded again with the successful tender for Claudelands Events Centre, which became home to a new catering operation and the company’s head office. Troy Reid joined as Executive Chef and later became co-owner, acquiring Peter’s share during the company’s 2014 expansion into Auckland.

Now with more than 30 kitchens across three regions and over 20 years of experience, Montana Group is recognised as an industry leader, known for delivering exceptional food, outstanding service, and successful outcomes for complex, large-scale, and innovative projects.
